The Minister of Finance of Angola, Vera Daves de Sousa, was distinguished, Wednesday, in Accra, Ghana, with the prize of “Minister of Finance of the Year”, attributed by the African Banker Awards.
The distinction took place during the annual reference conference for the continent’s banking and finance, held on the sidelines of the African Development Bank’s annual meetings, according to a note quoted by ANGOP.
The recognition, according to those responsible for the African Banker magazine and the organizers of the African Banker Awards, was based on criteria such as the work that the minister has developed aimed at the sustainability of public finances, as well as her ability to face global economic problems. more challenging in the current context.
Aspects such as the “courageous reformist agenda for the renewal of confidence in the Angolan economy and the mobilization of resources for the transformation of infrastructures” were also highlighted for this recognition.
In a message sent to the organization of the event, Vera Daves thanked the recognition, which is extended to the open, visionary and courageous leadership of the President of the Republic, João Lourenço, and to the entire Government Economic team.
“Allow me to thank you, once again, for the distinction you have given, not only to me, but to the entire team at the Ministry of Finance of Angola and to all young people in Angola, who have hope and believe that it is possible to be young, be honest, be in line with best practices and be recognized locally and internationally for that”, he underlined.
Vera Daves guarantees continuous work and doing everything to improve the quality of public finances, the economy and the well-being of Angolan citizens.
The Minister of Finance participated in the ADB’s annual meeting in virtual format, and her award was received by a representative at the event’s location.

In addition to the award for Minister of Finance of the Year, other categories were distinguished, such as African Banker of the Year, African Bank of the Year, Development Finance Institution of the Year, Regional Bank of the Year, Infrastructure Agreement of the Year, Business of Year – Debt, Deal of the Year – quity and FinTech Award of the Year.
The categories of Sustainable Bank of the Year, SME Bank of the Year, Energy Deal of the Year, Agricultural Business of the Year, Lifetime Achievement Award, African Banker Icon and Central Bank Governor of the Year were also distinguished.
Angola thus receives, for the second time, the award given to an African Minister of Finance. The first was, in 2014, in which the then Minister of Finance Armando Manuel was distinguished in the same category.
