The Angolan writer Boaventura Cardoso receives, this Thursday, 10, in Luanda the IV DSTVAngola/Camões Literature Prize, promoted by the DSTVGroup, in partnership with the Camões Institute, which he won in this year’s edition with the work “Margens e Travessias” , published in 2021.
The award, a cash prize worth 15,000 euros, will be handed over today to the big winner in Luanda, in the corresponding amount in kwanzas. The various works in the competition were analyzed by a reference jury made up of professor Irene Guerra Marques (president), professor Manuel Muanza and journalist
Carlos Ferreira, who was responsible for analyzing, choosing and justifying the award-winning work: “The award of the award to the author Boaventura Cardoso is essentially based on the fact that it is a work that reflects, better than ever, a writer who he got used, over the years, to an exhaustive work that constantly balances between a very rich creativity, but also very disciplined”, highlighted the award jury.
“Between the imaginary, the realist, the religious, the musical (the refrain that runs through one of the main figures in his novel, in his life!), Boaventura Cardoso uses the same methods that made him one of the best prose writers in the History of Angolan Literature. : an iron discipline, a deep knowledge of reality, a lucid and intelligent observation of everything that is happening around him (around us…) and builds a novel that is fundamental for anyone who wants to know the Angola of the last half-century” , added the jury.
The DSTVAngola/Camões Literature Prize, which distinguishes books published in poetry and prose, by artists born in Angola, has already distinguished authors such as Zetho Cunha Gonçalves, in 2019, Pepetela, in 2020 and Benjamim M’Bakassy, last year.
It should be remembered that, also within the scope of the protocol signed in 2019 with Camões, IP, the dstangola reading room was created at the Portuguese Cultural Center in Luanda, which received thousands of books from the dstgroup, worth more than 12,500 euros.
A reinforcement of six thousand euros is already foreseen for this project, in each of the three subsequent years. Among the thousands of books there are titles by Portuguese authors, Portuguese-speaking authors, technical books and literature, among many other genres.
