A road accident caused the death of 13 people and another 18 were seriously injured, yesterday in Benguela, as a result of the overturn of a Mini-Bus, on National Road n° 250, on the section that connects the municipality of Bocoio to Lobito.
The bus, leaving the province of Huambo bound for Benguela, overturned yesterday afternoon, causing 11 deaths on the spot and 18 injured.
Just yesterday, during the night, one of the 18 victims lost his life, already in the Hospital. The medical team at the Benguela hospital recorded this Thursday another death, bringing the number of fatalities to 13.
Doctor Elísio Agostinho, from the Emergency Bank of the General Hospital of Benguela said that “the patients arrived at the hospital around 5 pm in serious condition and unfortunately one ended up dying inside the hospital unit and the rest are being followed up with greater care”.
Asked if there are sufficient means to respond to these patients, the doctor advanced saying “We have enough means to assess the pathologies that may result from this accident and with regard to expendable materials at the moment the hospital is managing to end it” he countered.
According to the spokesman for the National Police in Benguela, Ernesto Tchiwale is presumed that the accident occurred due to excessive speed, lack of prudence and the poor technical condition of the vehicle.
However, he guarantees that investigations are still in progress at the scene to determine the real causes of the accident.
