The Court of the District of Luanda appointed, Thursday, the witness Isabel Zacarias Gomes, single, 45 years old, for giving false statements, during the testimony, after the Public Prosecutor’s Office asked the judge of the case to extract certificates for the of a criminal case.
According to the representative of the Public Ministry, the statements made by Isabel Zacarias Gomes, in the preparatory phase of the process, do not correspond to those made in yesterday’s session, as a witness in the Lussaty case.
When carrying out the interrogation, the Public Prosecutor’s Office stated that Isabel Zacarias Gomes was not being consistent in her testimony, even after having sworn, in court, to “speak the truth”, regardless of the ties of friendship, familiarity or, even, enmity with the defendants.
In response to the Public Ministry’s request to constitute the witness as a defendant, the judge in the case, Andrade da Silva, ordered that the certificates be extracted to continue the criminal process, on the charge of false statements.
Isabel Zacarias Gomes, who until the date of the facts worked as an archivist at the Central Supply Base (BCA), in Kikolo, cried when she realized that she was going from witness to defendant in the Lussaty case.
With a trembling voice at the microphone, Isabel Zacarias Gomes told the representative of the Public Ministry that the testimony given in the preparatory phase of the process corresponds with the statements made as a witness.
The defense lawyer for the defendants Aníbal Pires Nunes Antunes, Ildefonso da Gama Ferraz and Yuri Nicolau Ernesto Pascoal, as well as the lawyer Tito Bernardo, in reaction to the court’s decision, expressed their wish to be the representatives of the defendant Isabel Zacarias Gomes, requesting, from the outset, to the judge of the case the refusal to extract the certificates.
In response, minutes after Judge Andrade da Silva paused the hearing, the Luanda District Court stated that the defendant has the right to have her defenders, but that, however, the criminal process will continue.
Yuri Nicolau Ernesto Pascoal, speaking to Jornal de Angola, said that the Public Prosecutor’s Office felt confronted and offended by the fact that Isabel Zacarias Gomes had not allowed her statements to be heard or read during the interrogation.
The Public Ministry, he said, wanted to hear from the witness some fact that would give sustainability against the people who are being tried here in the Lussaty case. Yuri Nicolau Ernesto Pascoal referred that the statements made by Isabel Zacarias Gomes, made in the preparatory phase, correspond to yesterday’s testimony.
“We went to read the witness’ statements, and we verified that they are not contrary to what he just said in the court session”, said defense lawyer Aníbal Pires Nunes Antunes and Ildefonso da Gama Ferraz.
The Luanda District Court also interrogated witnesses Jacinto Jacob Cipriano (lieutenant), Isabel Zacarias Gomes (archive technician), Maria da Conceição dos Santos Valentim (cook), Alexandre Tomé Joaquim (mechanic) and Victor Clementino Sapalo (Employee of the Military House).
